The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I love a good thriller but can’t really handle emotional or psychological horror. I’m also just lazy enough to find myself willing to watch a movie instead of read a book. Dozens of people have recommended The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to me and it’s on my reading list – behind hundreds of other titles I hope to read someday. When I saw the movie advertised at our local independent theater, I jumped at the chance to see it. It was compelling and amazing, and I found myself chattering about it for days afterwards. The suspense was fantastic and the story was filled with intrigue. There were several scenes that I could barely stomach: one was a horribly brutal rape scene and the other included descriptive details of previous murders. All in all it was one of the best movies I’ve seen all year, and I was only slightly disappointed to learn that Hollywood is already planning a re-make. Big surprise that America jumps in with the "we can do it better" (and without subtitles) attitude.
